Four Amigos do Big Bend
In 2005 we started thinking about doing a trip to Mexico possibly Veracruz. I had planned the route and everything seemed on track. Then something came up: My friend Lloyd, animal lover, was handling a rattle snake and was bitten on the finger. Luckily he was on hospital reach where he got applied massive dosis of antivenom. Nevertheless, his finger got necrosis and the doctors had to clean it constantly taking off pieces of dead flesh. He recovered fully and didn’t loose his finger yet has a scar to remind him. Obviously he couldn’t go anywhere.
2006 came and we decided to go to Big Bend National park which I heard it was really beautiful. BBNP is located on the south west part of the state of Texas bordering with Mexico. I had bought a couple of Ride Texas magazines which showed us how to get there. The magazine showcases the best roads to ride in the State and 3 of then where in the national park. While looking at the magazine I realized that we could ride more of the best roads on the way there instead of a straight shot. I carefully mapped the route and we were ready to hit the road.
I told my friend Bobby (aka. Flabby Bladder) about the trip and he said he will go with us. Right on! I also mentioned to Steve and he said he wanted to go as well. Only one thing….He had never riden or own a bike. While we were concerned about him, he decided to do it. Two weeks before the trip he did the MSF class and a week before he got his license and bought a bike.
I met Flabby in Hillsborough to meet our friends in Austin. Everything went as plan we got in just at the right time to get something for dinner. We were pump to get going and we had a great night of rest.
