Four Amigos do Big Bend

When we got to Marathon it was maybe 10 at night and everything was closed. The only hotel its super fancy and the only motel had no vacancy. WE even thought about sleeping on the open sky since it was so beautiful. We saw a bar with some people hanging out by the door. We stopped by to ask if they knew a place to stay. They were super friendly asking us to stay with then and that there was nothing opened. They were a group of bohemian, artsy , weirdo kind. Almost too friendly… maybe because of the drinks. If you have ever seen the movie “From dust ’till dawn” and you remember the bar scene, you know what we are talking about. I though we were going to get bitten by vampires as soon as we crossed the bar doors. Nicely we declined the invitation and we kept on going to Alpine to find a place to sleep.

I took the lead because I had a huge light bar on the bike. I think it was a foolish decision to do this: There was mule deer on the side of the road and we were tired. I saw the biggest deer I’ve ever seen in my life. Somehow we survived the 40 miles and about 20 plus deers. This was a very dangerously situation. We got to Alpine and we stopped at the first hotel we saw with a vacancy sign. Our luck, the place had a jacuzzi!

The next day we headed towards the national park. Oh my… this place was beautiful. A lot of mountains and just crisp clean air. We were just too excited to be there. We rode for hours through the mountains and through the desert. When we got to Presidio we got gas then we went to the local restaurant, we ordered some food and suddenly the waiter asked: Its Mr. Jaime here? Everybody looked around at me and I was even surprised. I knew about my reputation but I didn’t think it will follow me all the way to the border. I said:I am. Then she proceeded to tell me I left my credit card at the gas station. You see, while we were getting gas I asked the lady which restaurant she recommended. She knew where we were going and she was so nice to call and return it.

We did a huge loop through the National park and went back to Alpine for some dinner and relaxing time at the jacuzzi. When Steve got in, it was obvious, that he had too much time in the saddle….. Later on, we went to see the marfa lights which are something like the mystery lights of area 51.

The next day we got back on the road hauling ass and testing Lloyd’s bike speed limit. Neither Steve nor myself could keep up, only flabbie’s BMW. Big bend national park has the nicest roads, we were doing hundred miles in an hour. You do the match how fast we were going. My mpg dropped from 38 to 25.
